The Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1

[ English ]

The objective of a Backgammon match is to move your pieces around the game board and bear them from the board quicker than your opponent who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a match in Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. How far you will be able to move your pieces is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and how you shift your pieces are determined by your overall gambling strategies. Players use differing plans in the differing parts of a game dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Technique

The aim of the Running Game plan is to bring all your chips into your home board and bear them off as quick as you can. This technique focuses on the pace of advancing your chips with absolutely no efforts to hit or stop your competitor’s pieces. The best time to employ this plan is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers a lot faster than your opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the board; 2) all your pieces have past your competitor’s checkers; or 3) the opposing player doesn’t employ the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Technique

The main aim of the blocking technique, by the name, is to block the competitor’s chips, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your pieces rapidly. Once you’ve established the blockade for the competitor’s movement with a few pieces, you can move your other checkers rapidly from the game board. The player should also have a clear plan when to withdraw and move the chips that you employed for blocking. The game gets interesting when your opposition utilizes the same blocking strategy.
