In astonishingly general terms, there are three general game plans employed. You must be able to hop between game plans instantly as the action of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This is comprised of assembling a 6-deep wall of pieces, or at least as deep as you are able to manage, to barricade in your competitor’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is deemed to be the most suitable procedure at the begining of the match. You can build the wall anywhere within your 11-point and your 2-point and then move it into your home board as the match continues.
The Blitz
This is composed of closing your home board as fast as as you can while keeping your challenger on the bar. e.g., if your challenger rolls an early 2 and shifts one piece from your 1-point to your three-point and you then toss a 5-5, you can play six/one 6/1 eight/three eight/three. Your opponent is then in big-time trouble considering that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have closed half your home board!
The Backgame
This strategy is where you have two or more checkers in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor spot is a point consisting of at a minimum 2 of your checkers.) It would be played when you are significantly behind as this action greatly improves your circumstances. The better places for anchors are towards your competitor’s lower points and either on adjacent points or with a single point separating them. Timing is essential for a powerful backgame: after all, there’s no reason having two nice anchors and a solid wall in your own inner board if you are then forced to dismantle this right away, while your opposer is getting their checkers home, owing to the fact that you don’t have any other additional pieces to shift! In this case, it’s better to have pieces on the bar so that you can preserve your position up until your challenger provides you a chance to hit, so it will be an excellent idea to attempt and get your opponent to hit them in this case!
